Palace Young Company (formerly HCYT)
What is Palace Young Company?
Building on the legacy of Hertfordshire County Youth Theatre, Palace Young Company offers young people in Watford and Hertfordshire opportunities to work alongside the Palace Theatre’s professional team to create and perform on the Palace Theatre’s stage and beyond.
A professionally led young company for 11-19s in Watford and beyond
Who is it for?
Palace Young Company is open to anyone aged 11-19, with members drawn from our weekly Palace Youth Theatre and PYT Hub groups, HCYT alumni, and through workshops in schools and with community groups.
How can I join?
The best way to find out about Palace Young Company opportunities is to join one of our Palace Youth Theatre groups, which meet weekly during term time. You can also join the Take Part mailing list to find out about upcoming projects and opportunities by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or 01923 810307.
Do I need to audition?
We want Palace Young Company to be inclusive as possible, so you don’t need to audition to become a member. However, some of our projects and opportunities have a limited number of spaces, so either an audition or short application process may be required.
Does it cost anything?
Joining Palace Young Company is free, though some of our projects may require a production fee of around £70. The Palace Youth theatre also costs £70 per term. PYT and PYC bursary places are available for anyone for whom finances would be a barrier to taking part.
Palace Young Company will be performing at the Royal Opera House’s Linbury Studio on June 28th as part of the ROH Bridge’s The Thriving Child conference. We held a series of consultation workshops with schools and community groups around Watford in March and April and are currently in rehearsal. If you'd like to find out about future projects, please get in touch.
In 2017, HCYT put on an adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island, adapted for stage and directed by the Palace Theatre's Associate Director, James Williams. Take a look at our trailer to see what our young company got up to
If you have performed in an HCYT production either as a performer or part of the Young Production Team or taken part in an audition workshop, we would love you to keep in touch and tell us what you are doing.
