Hertfordshire County Youth Theatre

A county-wide youth theatre for 13-19s in Hertfordshire

Supported by Hertfordshire County Council, HCYT showcases the talent of 13-19 year old from across the county, offering them the opportunity to perform or get involved backstage in a professionally produced production on stage at the Palace.

This October half term, HCYT will be putting on an adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island, adapted for stage and directed by Resident Director for Participation James Williams. for more information and to book your tickets, please click here.


Resource Pack and Sea Shanty Competition Autumn 2017

Watford Palace Theatre are currently running a sea shanty competition for primary schools across Hertfordshire, for a chance to win up to three creative workshops with Resident Director for Participation James Williams. Acting company

The acting company is chosen on a production by production basis from a round of workshop auditions that take place across Hertfordshire. Members of the performance company will take part in rehearsals and perform in a professionally produced production on stage at Watford Palace Theatre.

HCYT provides:

  • Unique access for young people to a professional producing theatre experience.
  • Increased level of professionalism in their approach to school rehearsals and lessons.
  • Practical understanding of a wide range of games, excercises and rehearsal techniques.

Young production team

A unique opportunity for 13-19 yr olds to gain hands on experience in backstage disciplines of lighting, sound and stage management. Participations take part in the full production week, supported by professional Palace Theatre team.

We are full for our young production team for October 2017, but please get in touch in spring 2018 to register your interest for next year's production.

Past productions

Hertfordshire County Youth Theatre is 12 years old, with its first ever production of Our Country’s Good taking place at The Abbey Theatre in St Albans back in 2005.
