Community Choir

Watford Palace Theatre Community Choir

A fun and friendly weekly choir open to all adults and all abilities.

Watford Palace Theatre runs a weekly community choir, which is open to all, with no audition or experience required. The group focuses on enjoyment of singing, aiming to learn and improve along the way. The choir meets every Wednesday evening from 7.30-9.30pm during school term time. You are welcome to try out a session for free at the start of term- just drop an email to Participation to let them know you are coming along.

The group sings a varied repertoire ranging from show tunes to seasonal favourites and classic pop songs – everything from Gabriel Fauré to Bob Dylan! They are led by their professional musical director Stephen Merrony, who writes the arrangements and also accompanies the group on piano. In December, the choir sang a medley from Oliver! The Musical on the Palace Theatre stage to an audience of 150 plus and also sang for the inpatients at Langley House, an NHS in-patient rehabilitation centre.

Sheet music is provided for those who can read it or who would like to learn, but there is absolutely no pressure to use sheet music, the choir want all our singers to feel comfortable. The choir will be learning lots of new songs after Easter and we hope you will join us for a good sing, a cup of tea and sometimes some homemade cake!

Our first meeting for the Summer 2018 term is on Wednesday April 18th - 7.30pm at the theatre. Email us at participation@watfordpalacetheatre.co.uk or call 01923 810307 to arrange your free trial session. After that, your first term will cost just £65.00 for the remaining 10 sessions (11 in total). You can pay either at box office or bring your money to your second session and we'll do the rest.

In  summer 2017 our Choir were invited to sing in France- you can read all about it in the Watford Observer here: http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/leisure/music/15494564.Encore_demanded_in_France_for_choir_currently_looking_for_new_members/

Plans for 2018 so far…

On March 9th we performed at Emmanuel Church in Northwood as part of the celebration of 20 years of the Northwood Live at Home charity. On Saturday June 16th we will be performing to help raise funds for a local charity DRUM - which is user led and organises activities for those with physical and/or sensory disabilities. The following Saturday, June 23rd you can hear us sing at Chiltern Open Air Museum’s celebration of the Suffragette movement. Our summer concert on the stage of the Palace Theatre on July 4th will be immediately followed by this summer’s choir mini-tour: we will be travelling to sing at two charity concerts in South Wales. We also have plans to sing at further events and community venues around Watford later in the year.

Come and join us in April - we'll be waiting to greet you at the theatre!
