Watford Palace Theatre Win Promotion of Diversity Award at UK Theatre Awards 2015
28 October 2015
Watford Palace Theatre is proud to announce recently winning the Promotion of Diversity Award (as joint winners with Leicester Curve) at the UK Theatre Awards 2015.
The event, hosted at the London Guildhall and attended by over 400 UK Theatre members and guests, saw Watford Palace take the award for its initiatives to ensure it offers and develops services for the widest range of the population.
Artistic Director at Watford Palace Theatre, Brigid Larmour, said:
‘I’m delighted that we’ve won an award for doing what we love – working with a wide range of people from different backgrounds - writers, actors, creative teams, companies and community participants - making theatre that reflects who we are. Our work with our two Resident Companies, Rifco Arts, led by Pravesh Kumar, and Tiata Fahodzi, led by Natalie Ibu, is an important part of this. I’m proud that Watford Palace Theatre’s work in the promotion of diversity has been recognised in this important award, shared with our colleagues and collaborators at Leicester Curve, but I look forward to a time when the award itself becomes obsolete, because theatres and arts organisations across the country are fully reflecting the richness and variety of who we all are in the UK today.’
Leicester Curve Theatre was joint winner of the award.
UK Theatre’s annual UK Theatre Awards celebrate the creative excellence and outstanding work seen in UK theatres each year. They are the only nationwide awards to honour creative excellence and the outstanding achievement seen on and off stage throughout England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
