John Hunt was born in Watford, 1951. He attended Rickmansworth School and trained as journalist at Harlow College and then on to newspapers in Doncaster and Sheffield before moving back south to join ITN in 1979. He was involved in the development of teletext then joined Channel 4 News as a producer before becoming senior news editor. 

John was also involved in the trade union movement, having been a member of the National union of Journalists NEC and later becoming Chair of the combined unions at ITN in 1989.

He eventually moved into management of ITN as Head of Resources in 1994, in charge of operational non editorial staff around the world.   

In 2002 he moved to Dublin, Ireland to become Director of Operations at RTE TV - the national broadcaster.  In charge of all technical staff in TV, TV technology, capital planning,  archive,  human resources,  industrial relations,  introduction of new working practices,  change management etc. 

John retired in March 2012 and returned to live in Hertfordshire. In 2013, helped set up new UK based outside broadcast company,  OBSTV as UK Executive Director. 

John's other interests include Watford FC, and he has been a regular attendee at Vicarage Road since 1959!
