The Human Comedy

Music by Galt MacDermot

Book by William MacDumaresq
From an original story by William Saroyan

A tale of wartime heroism set in a small town in southern California during World War Two. Young Homer delivers telegrams of love, joy and the sorrows of war. His mother prays for the safe return of his brother Marcus from the front line. His sister dreams that she too could fight for her country.

A timeless coming of age story that celebrates the healing spirit of community and the unifying power of song, with an exuberant musical score of swing, gospel, pop, folk and show tunes, delivered with explosive energy.

This 70’s hit has music by Galt MacDermot, whose ground-breaking musical Hair has enjoyed a thrilling West End revival in 2010. From the producers of Street Scene (winner of the Evening Standard Award for Best Musical 2008), which opened in Watford, The Human Comedy brings together a professional and community company of over seventy performers in an irresistibly joyful and immersive theatrical experience which will use the Palace’s historic auditorium in ways never seen before.
