A focus of Watford Palace Theatre's £8.8m million refurbishment, completed in 2004, was improving the technical capability of the venue.

- Six accessible dressing rooms equipped with showers & toilets
- a well-equipped wardrobe department with laundry
- a full height fly tower
- a deeper stage with crossover behind
- a full height get-out dock with direct vehicle to stage access
Technical improvements included:
- a new 21 bar counter-weight system (with an additional 19 hemp bars)
- improved lantern stock
- 208 ways of dimming
- industry standard Strand 520 lighting desk
- new sound system, new digital sound desk (Yamaha 01V) and sound computer for recording, editing and playback (SFX & Adobe Audition)
